Every wiki runs itself: its owner, admins and moderators make the day-to-day calls, within the platform's rules.
Roles#
| Role | Can |
|---|---|
| Owner | Everything below; hands ownership on |
| Admin | Settings; gives roles |
| Moderator | Blocks; deletes and restores pages; hides revisions; handles reports |
| Trusted editor | Reviews new editors' edits and uploads; writes components; adds emotes and Wiki Data |
| Editor | Edits pages; uploads files |
Editors become autoconfirmed after a few days and a few accepted edits (the wiki sets how many). Until then their uploads wait for review, they upload one file at a time, and some edits ask for a quick check that they're human.
Edit modes#
The owner picks one:
- Open: everyone signed in edits; new editors' edits that add links to other sites are reviewed first.
- Reviewed: new editors' edits wait in the Review queue until a trusted editor accepts them.
- Closed: only trusted editors and up edit.
Pages can also be protected one by one, so only trusted editors or admins change them.
When things go wrong#
- History shows every version of a page, what changed, and who changed it; any version can be restored.
- Rollback undoes all of someone's recent edits at once: pages, components and Wiki Data.
- Blocks stop someone editing this wiki, for a while or for good, with a reason they can see.
- Reports: readers can report a page; moderators see reports with the rest of the moderation tools.
- Hiding: a revision with personal information can be hidden from everyone but moderators.
Every moderation action goes in a public log, so the community can see how its wiki is run.
